Max and his Skin Thingy

Max got a bath on Monday evening, because he had aquired quite an odor, as dogs do. During the bathing process, it was noticed that he had a round bald spot a few inches north of his tail. Said bald spot was juicy...red, inflamed, and wet.

Ew.

We put some antibiodic ointment on it and decided that he required a visit to the vet.

Tuesday morning we lugged the big guy to the vet, where he reveled in the attention afforded him by the staff, and stared down the office pet, a black and white feline by the name of Val. We were worried that Max's dermatological issue was in reality a case of ring worm, since it was round and red. Ring worm would have been a gigantic mess for all of us besides what it meant for Max. Thankfully, it wasn't ring worm.

In fact, it wasn't anything contagious at all.

Somehow, Max managed to get a perfect circle of skin scraped off his back. He licked it, tugged at it, rolled around to scratch it...whatever he did, inflamed and infected it to make it look gooey. (I have pictures, but they are pretty gross, and I am loathe to post them, mainly because I don't want to look at that again if I don't have to!) The doc gave Max a cortizone shot to help with the inflamation and irritation, and gave us some antibiodic pills (one 3x a day)and ointment (2x daily).

In just two days, it had started to dry up, and this morning, it was about half the size it was on Monday.

We also got his blood levels checked for his seizure meds, and everything is in the realm of normalcy (yay!), so we will continue with the status quo there.

Everyone else is doing ok. Scout goes back to see Dr. E on the 18th for his two year check up!
