Max's upset tummy part2

The vet was very nice... and very informative. He gave Max a thorough examination, and while he could not tell us what exactly was causing his nausea and vomiting, he did not think that blood tests or film would tell us either, so we didn't get encouraged to purchase tests that would not reveal any definitive answers. He was very impressed that we took care of so many ill animals. It was kind of funny, because we told them that we gave Max some Ondansetron (Zofran) and he asked (very directly) why we had that medicine, because it's not something that people just normally have on hand, and we said (very non-chalantly) that we had a cat with cancer. And a dog with megaesopahgus. His tone changed to a surprised, "Oh!" The look on his face was priceless!

So it was determined that this is probably a flare-up of his gastritis. He got an injection of Reglan, which is a motility drug (Katy was on a pill version of this, and it gave her the runs), and one of Cerenia, which is an anti-nausea similar to the Zofran, just not as strong. Apparently, Zofran is the best anti-nausea meds out there. He also does not get any food until 6pm tonight, and only a half-serving. Regular feeding can begin again tomorrow if there are no more incidents.

It will be fun getting him to behave while Katy is fed. And by fun, I mean NOT! Katy can't skip a meal, and Max has to. Max loves to eat, and would eat 24/7 if we let him. He will not be happy that he doesn't get any food this afternoon and she does. Oh well, that's what he gets for getting sick!
