Trying Something New with Katy

We are getting close to the bottom of a couple of bottle of meds for Katy, so I called the vet on Friday to ask about refills and alternatives. I asked for something that wouldn't be so much money out at one time (a bottle of 250 of Katy's antibiodics runs over $600, and while it's a really good price for bulk, it's still a lot of money to hand over at one time. They found some of the anti-nausea pills at a really good bulk price of $160 for 1,000 pills. Yeah. A thousand pills. We won't be running out of those any time soon.

We are also trying a human version of the antibiodics that is about $10 for two months of pills. Our vet isn't sure if they will work, but we figured we could affored to try it out. Hopefully, it will work fine with her metabolism, and she will be able to take these pills and save us 80-90 % annually over the other meds. We're crossing our fingers, and we'll find out in about two weeks, since that is how long it takes for her to get infected.

We are making her food thicker (more oatmeal/meatball texture) and less soupy, since she has been coughing up food quite a bit lately, and has lost a lot of weight. We are also going back to 4-5 smaller meals a day to see if that helps keep the food down. She needs to gain weight so if she gets sick, she has the stored energy to fight back the infection. An added bonus is that she will sleep more through the night. In the past two weeks, she's slept through the night two times. Usually, she is up around 2:30am throwing up her food and coughing, and has been spending the rest of the night doing the same. It has made for some very long days and nights.
