Not much going on here for the holiday, which is good. It was a chemo day for Scout, but he has seemed to be in a good mood all day.
After he gets his pill, Scout gets some wet food for a treat and also because he is supposed to have food with his medicine, and wet food is the only way we could figure out to make sure that he ate after taking his meds. Since Scout is the "Alpha" cat in the house, PJ has to wait for him to finish, and PJ then gets whatever is left over. This is usually what it looks like while PJ waits.
He's so cute, waiting in line. The bowl with Scout's name on it is what we call the "Candy Bowl." It's filled with some dry food, some dried-out wet food, and both hard and soft treats. You can see two other bowls are also sitting out. They are alternate food choices for the daily kitty buffet.
Here are our food stores. I think we have more cat food than Kroger's. We had been running a bit low, but Kroger's had some on sale, and Wal-mart had one of Scout's favorites in stock so we bought them out, and then PetSmart had another one of Scout's favorites on sale, plus we got a $5 off for buying more than 30 cans and I had a coupon to get another can free. The food he likes best is the Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys.
The food on the very top is Sheba. When Scout first got sick, he really liked this stuff. Now he won't eat it. The white bags hold the hypo-allergenic cat food the hospital gave us when he was released. Scout refused to eat it, even though it smells really good. It's duck and potato, but he refused to touch it. I was really glad when Dr. E said we didn't have to worry about a special diet, and just get him to eat. She hinted in our last visit that she might eventually want him on a hypo-allergenic diet, but I really don't see that happening. There's also some Meow Mix Market Select that he sometimes gets a craving for, and also some Friskey's Turkey and Giblets that is a pate-type food. That one is actually one of PJs favorites, but Scout will eat it, too.
And just because I know you were wondering....
Joey Chestnut successfully defended his title of "Most-Hot-Dogs-Eaten-on-July 4-in-a-Short-Amount-of-Time." He ate 59 hot dogs in ten minutes, the new record for 10 minutes. Before today, the contest was 12 minutes long, but two minutes were shaved off when it was discovered that the original competition in 1916 was only 10 minutes long. The contest this year actually ended in a tie with Chestnut and six-time winner Takeru Kobayashi, so they had a five hot dog eat-off. That's right. After cramming down 59 'dogs and buns in 10 minutes, these guys then had to toss down five more. Chestnut finished his five before Kobayashi, so he was declared the winner and new spokesman for Pepto.
