Scout Saturday Update

Dr. Frank called us about an hour ago. An emergency came in that required an ultra sound, so Scout got his test today. They saw no signs of tumors or cancer, which is terrific news. Dr. Frank said that Scout's kidneys are a bit smaller than they should and that they are a little bit of an odd shape, but nothing to be alarmed about, just to keep monitoring them as he gets older by getting the blood tests. They saw a little bit of the thickening of the intestines, which is a sign of the Inflammatory Bowel, but no signs of Pancreatitis. On Monday, the radiology specialist will review the ultra sound and make his recommendations for or against the endoscopic biopsy for the intestines.

She also said that Scout's liver is brighter than normal, but it is to be expected, since he has not been eating well. She said that when cats don't eat that their body starts breaking down fats, which will get clogged up in the liver, making it a brighter red, but she didn't see any negative symptoms or damage, which means that it just started.

Scout is on a nutrient IV, anti-nausea meds, and an antibiodic (which is a preventative measure). He is also getting an appetite stimulant to see if they can get him to eat some regular food. Dr. Frank is off for the rest of the weekend, and Dr. McAlister will be looking after Scout for the rest of the day today through tomorrow. She is supposed to call sometime between 10am and noon tomorrow to let us know how Scout is doing. I will post again sometime tomorrow afternoon unless something comes up.
