Katy had a great night on Tuesday, but Wednesday night she started coughing about 8, and at 3:30 Thursday morning, she started to throw up, and had a horrible time trying to stop. I got some meds down her about 4am, but she was still pretty nauseated. Around 5:30 I gave her some Reglan, and I didn't think it was working, because she refused her food at six. At 6:30, I tried again, putting a little bit of food on my finger, and she tried it and showed some interest. She finished off the bowl. At 7:30, she got fed the rest of her breakfast. They were put in kennels for the morning-- the only way to see if she has problems is to have her in the kennel and check for throw-up. The kennel was clean at lunch, but she threw up a little bit after coming in from her potty break in the backyard. This afternoon, there was a little throw up in the kennel, but she didn't throw up after the potty break, and doesn't seem nauseated.
The best news is that we've figured out that the breathing that I thought was a crisis breathing or a shortness of breath is actually how she breathes when she feels nauseated. By realizing this, we were able to deal with it at home and avoid a visit to the vet. But if she had still refused food, we would have had to drop her off at the vet for an anti-nausea shot, so we are fortunate that her stomach settled down.
Now she's resting and catching up on her sleep, something I hope to be able to do tonight. I am planning to give her a Reglan about an hour or so before bedtime, and hopefully, it will work through the night.
