This morning I found him laying in the corner by the front window. He was breathing heavily through his mouth. I really wanted to give him a break on his meds this morning...for sure no pills, and wanted to avoid the nebulizer because he really disliked it. But we decided that we wanted his last hours to be as painless as possible, so we gave him the inhaled meds. After about fifteen minutes, he was breathing easier. I picked him up and went to sit in the chair again. We made an appointment at the vet.
I sat in the chair with him for about half an hour, and then carried him to the litter box...just in case. He wasn't interested, so I picked him up and took him to the bathroom and turned on the water in the sink...just in case. He still wasn't interested. He lay on the counter while I got ready, and then we took him outside, one last time.
I think he liked it. He walked around a little, and sniffed around a little.
We brought him back inside, and I held him for at least an hour, until he didn't want to be held any more. I took him back over to his boxes and let him rest.
I sat next to him.
Before I knew it, it was time to go.
I didn't want to mess with a carrier, so I held him on the car ride.
The receptionist took us into a private room as soon as we got there. The vet tech came in and we gave her an update on our weekend. She weighed him. He had lost a pound since Thursday morning. We had a few minutes more with Scout before the vet came in. After a brief exam, he took Scout in the back for a catheter. He brought him back with a soft, fluffy blue towel for Scout to lay on.
We told Scout our final goodbyes.
A few moments later, he was gone.

We would like to thank everyone for their support, positive energy, and prayers during Scout's illness and especially during the last few days.
