Back to the story. Scout was mad to start with. For the first time ever, he would not go into his carrier. Normally, I can just hold him in front of his carrier and he will walk right in. Not today, no sir. He was not going in there without getting his breakfast first. So for the first time ever, we had to turn the carrier on its end and lower him in, back feet first. I warned the vet tech that he was mad, and she said that was nothing new, that he didn't want to be there. Normally, I would say that was true, but I stressed that he was mad before we even left the house, that he was hungry, and they needed to be careful. She politely dismissed my concerns and took him into the back where they draw blood, weigh him, and give his physical exam. Shortly afterward, I could hear him yelling. I shrugged. They were warned.
Dr. E came in to visit with me. His weight was down a bit, to 13.44 pounds, but she was not concerned, because she felt it was within normal fluctuations. That and he was trying to jump off the scale at the time. I told her that I warned her tech that he was in a bad mood. She laughed. We talked about whether or not he should have an ultrasound, and she said no, that his bloodwork was fine, and as long as he is acting normally at home, there is no need to have the extra test. But if he starts to need the appetite stimulant more often, like when he was first diagnosed, then he will need to have the ultrasound.
Here is his discharge summary:
Scout is back today for a recheck examination and repeat lab work prior to refilling his oral medications. You report that he has been doing fine at home. He did have one episode of decreased appetite but responded nicely to the cyproheptadine. On physical examination today his weight is decreased slightly at 13.44 pounds. This is a decrease from his previous visit but is still in the same general range where he has been. His complete blood count today was within normal limits. HIs chemistry profile has a persistent but stable elevation in his BUN. Since he continues to do well, we elected to refill his chlorambucil today as planned. I would like to see him back in 3 to 4 months for a recheck physical examination and lab work. If his weight drops again however, we may need to consider an abdominal ultrasound.
He was very quiet on the ride home, very sleepy. He didn't talk to me hardly at all. Usually, he will meow and chirp at me to let me know just how he feels. When we got home, I put out some food for him, but he was not interested. He wandered around the house. He seemed a bit restless, perhaps he was still upset about his early morning ordeal. He has been calling to me most of the time since we got back home, but he has eaten some, and has purred and rubbed up against my legs.
