This past weekend, Katy scaled the kennel that she sometimes shares with Max and helped herself to some cat food. Twice. Once on Friday and once on Sunday. She leaves a huge mess behind when she does this, because she can't keep the food down, so she just throws it up again and then eats it again, and so on and so on. This generally triggers an episode of aspiration pneumonia.
Last night, she started convulsing about 8:30, making the honking noise. She settled down a bit and was able to go to bed, but about 11pm, she started up again in her kennel. I moved the dogs to the living room and gave Katy a Zofran. She kept convulsing until about midnight. I think she fell asleep. I know I did. She woke up about 4:30 or 5am coughing. She ate her first breakfast, but wouldn't eat any more after that. At lunchtime she still looked like she didn't feel good, so Christa took her to the vet and dropped her off for some meds.
To make a long story short, Katy is down to 25 pounds, and has aspiration pneumonia. She got another shot of Zofran and shots of two types of antibiodics on two different strains. She will continue to get her oral antibiodics. They took some blood for testing, because we are pretty convinced there is something else wrong with her, like decreased kidney function.
She was running a temp today when I picked her up from the vet, and just kind of laid next to me on the ride home. When we got home, she jumped out of the truck and ran into the garage, and then into the living room. She was really thirsty (I don't think they gave her any water at the vet, plus she had that fever), and I finally got her to eat some food. She has mainly just been laying around. She's wagged her tail a few times, but still seems to not feel well at all.
Hopefully, she will start feeling better as the antibiodics work through her system. But she is really sick right now.
