Diary of a Bad Cat

December 31, 2008

Dear Diary--

What a terrific day! First of all, the mama was home today, and so I got some of Grandma's turkey with my wet food. I also got to sleep some of the morning on her lap. But the best thing happened in the afternoon. I would need the dogs to help me out, but luckily, they are stooges, so they agreed.

They were getting their lunch, and Katy did a great job of keeping the mama occupied by having to sit up for a really long time for her megaesophagus. That gave me the time I needed. You see, I knew that the door to this mysterious place called "the garage" was loose. I had noticed that I could open it with just a gentle push of my paw. So I took advantage of my opportunity and headed out to explore this new territory while the mama was taking care of Katy.

Now, Diary, this was a pretty neat place. There are lots of nooks and crannies to explore and boxes to climb on. And the best thing to climg on was something the mama called a "ladder," and that went to the best place I've ever been! This place, which I found out later is called the "attic" and had so many spaces to explore. I must have been up there for at least an hour, and could have been up there all afternoon, except I made a really big mistake. When I heard the mama call my name, I answered. It was out of habit, and I didn't know there was another one of these "ladders" in the house. The mama opened the ladder and saw me! I took off and hid under this big metal thing that mama said had something to do with the "air conditioner", but she saw me and tried to get me out, but I wiggled away and tried to hide between two big shiny tubes, but that wasn't a very good hiding place. I jumped over one of the tubes and dove into this white fluffy stuff called "insulation".

The mama gave up then and went back downstairs, but she came back pretty quickly with a flashlight. I had snuck along into the area where I came up, over the garage and was sitting on a board when she spotted me. But she disappeared downstairs again, and then I saw her a few minutes later at the top of the attic ladder, only she had the tub of catnip with her. Boy, oh, boy, this was turning into the best day ever!

I walked over to the mama to get some catnip, and she grabbed me before I realized it was a trap! She grabbed me by the back of the neck and held me really tight, and I don't like that when I'm not having fun, so I really didn't like it now. Besides, she started moving towards the ladder. She was going to take me back downstairs! I was really mad by this time, and I kicked one of my legs free and managed to kick her flashlight down to the garage, where it broke. Serves her right for ruining my fun!

Now all my fun is over. The mamas folded up the ladder and put latches on the door so I can't sneak up there any more. So I am back to finding bad things to do inside the house. There's not as many opportunities down here, so I will just have to work harder.

But wow! What a fanstastic day!
Later,
PJ
