Check-up

Scout had his monthly check-up today, and things went great! Here is Dr. E's summary of our visit:

Scout is back today and has managed to gain over a pound since his last visit! If that doesn't say he is doing good, I don't know what will. His is bright and active and very feisty. We were able to get his complete blood cound and chemistry profile this morning. His complete blood count was normal and his chemistry profile had stable elevations in his kidney values.

Since his weight is better and he is doing good at home, we are going to shift to an every 3 month recheck schedule. I have refilled enough chlorambucil to get to the next visit. I would like to see him back in 3 months for a physical examination, CBC, and chemistry prior to his next chemotherapy refill. Congratulations on a good checkup!

Scout's weight is now 13.75, which really pleased Dr. E. She said that this is around a good weight for him, and he could even go another quarter of a pound, but not much over 14 or he could develop other health issues. So we are going to cut back on the appetite stimulant to Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday and monitor his weight here at home and go back on the appetite stimulant if there is a problem with weight loss.

They had a hard time getting the blood samples from him, since he was "very feisty." We could actually hear him yelling at them through the walls, and had a good chuckle about it, since we warned them on our very first visit about his dislike for medical procedures. They ended up having to put him in what is called a "cat sack", which is a restraining bag for onery kitties, and seemed to piss him off more, since we could hear him yelling and hissing in the back room. He's still kind of ticked off two hours later, but has cooled down considerably.

Now we don't have to go back for three months, which is super-great because it is less stress for Scout, and will save us about $400 in examination and test costs. Dr. E even told us about another online pharmacy that will sell us Scout's anti-nausea meds in bulk, and save us about another 1/3 in costs of that.

No photos today, but in the meantime, you can check out my sports blog, where I have pictures from the Astros. The link is on the left panel. It's called Home Field Advantage.
