Scout Thursday Update

Scout ended up spending some time at the vet this afternoon. He wasn't wanting to eat, and seemed constantly nauseated. Dr. E suggested some subcutaneous fluids, along with an injection of anti-nausea, and an appetite stimulant. We got some appetite stimulant to take home.

When we got home, he was super-hungry. He's eaten a whole can of food, and a bunch of hard Pounce treats. It is the most he's eaten in about four days.

Apparently, the information I saw on the internet about how the chemo medicine doesn't effect cats how it effects people with nausea and loss of appetite was a big pile of poo. According to our vet, they get the same side effects as people. He suggested getting the steroid and metronidazole compounded together into a time-release capsule, since both of those medicines have a horrible, bitter taste. He also recommended Zofran as an alternative anti-nausea that is good for chemo patients and a newer appetite stimulant called Mirtazapine, that only has to be given once every three days. I emailed Dr. E, and we'll discuss these choices on the 25th, when Scout goes in for his check-up.
