Bones and Toys and Throw-up! Oh my!

Yesterday, I decided to give the dogs a treat: I made them some peanut butter bones, which consists of taking one of the hollowed-out bones from the petstore and stuffing it full of peanut butter and dog bisucits. The dogs absolutely love these, and they keep them occupied for hours on end. The latter especially helpful because I needed to clean up a few areas of the house to get things ready for putting up the tree later on that day. Well, it seemed like a good idea, anyway. I guess the peanut butter and biscuits and bone were too much excitement for Katy (she hasn't had any of these for quite some time), because it triggered an episode. I had to take the bone away, which I hated to do, even though she didn't mind, and spent the better part of an hour trying to get her back on track before dinnertime. So much for making things easier.

Anywho, she straightened out and we were able to decorate the tree with relatively few interruptions, i.e., Katy getting really thirsty for some reason. She'd drink water every ten minutes or so, and so one of us had to stop decorating to hold her up to let the water roll down her throat. One extra benefit for the dogs was that I needed some extra extension cords, and couldn't find any where we thought they were, but we did find a big stash of toys. It was like early Christmas for the Max and Katy. Which made them very excited, which triggered another episode. Oh well.

We got her settled down again in time for bed, but she started coughing in her kennel, and by 11:30, had to be let out to go to the living room. She threw up a couple of times, and I gave her a Cisapride about midnight, and about half an hour later she was still making the noise she makes when she's trying to clear her throat, and puffing out her cheeks (nausea). Max started scratching at the door, so I let them outside for a little bit while I looked around for Katy's stash of Reglan, and found I only had one-half of one pill. I thought I had more than that, but I guess my back-up system needs a little work, so I decided to give her a pepcid instead, which the vet said was an acceptable substitute.

I let them back in, and gave Katy her pill, and about fifteen minutes later things got a lot better. Katy stopped making those noises and puffing out her cheeks. I decided to try and get some sleep and laid down on the sofa, only to hear Katy, who was obviously feeling a lot better start playing with those newly found toys! Max somehow got himself lost in the vertical blinds and between the two of them they were making a ton of noise. I asked them if they wanted to go to the other door (so I could kennel them in the bedroom), and Max started barking, and Katy started jumping around like a jumping bean.

I got them kenneled and finally got to go back to bed around 1:30 this morning. Katy didn't have any more episodes until it was time to get up. They'll get to stay inside today with a big dual kennel so they can move around. They'll be inside while we make the rounds to visit our families today.

Pictures tomorrow of decorations and how PJ helped with them.
